Ingrid und Dr. Peter Hauber

For more than 38 years, paediatrician Peter Hauber and his wife Ingrid have organised benefit concerts on behalf of the IPPNW to counter the destruction of our planet with a work of culture.

At the end of 2015, at the height of the influx of refugees to Germany, Hauber suggested to the German Music Council that the hundreds of thousands of children seeking a new home in Germany should be given a perspective through music lessons, following the example of ‘El Sistema’. For him, this is a way of preventing these children from becoming socially marginalised and thus also becoming a problem for us, ‘because not only our children, but also these children are our future’.

His appeal remained unsuccessful; the German Music Council did not feel responsible. At the end of 2015, he founded the first ‘MitMachMusik’ in Berlin together with his wife and colleague Martin Ross and has since organised four benefit concerts for the project.
